Cowes, the Home of Yachting..

Sailing The Solent, Isle of WightFor many decades the island has played host to the many yachting clubs and major yachting events in the world. The 'Solent' offers some challenging conditions to test the best of sailors, and Cowes provides the centre to stage such grand events as The Admirals Cup, Round the Island Race, Fastnet.. etc.

Sailing Out at Sea, Isle of WightAugust gives spectacle to the Combined Club's Cowes Week, with serious racing during the day and more relaxed enjoyment and entertainment at night. The finale comes in the form of a giant fireworks display. Some eight tons of fireworks lit from an off-shore barge illuminate the boat laden bay to the sound of synchronised music, and the 'oohs and aahs' of the hundred thousand or so spectators. It's emotional to say the least!

The island supports numerous water related sport/activities catering for novice to professional abilities. If sailing is your passion you will find a venue to suit.
